A full-scale rebrand of Kansas' legacy news station
This was no small endeavor: to go to market with a full suite of new logos, branded items, station promotions, and graphic templates for our newscasts, ready to go at the "flip of a switch".
Roles: Creative Director, Designer, Producer, Project Manager
Approach: With the installation of a seven-figure news studio and state-of-the-art technology, it was imperative that we nailed this transition from a branding perspective. The objective was clear: to keep the KAKE News brand's legacy and integrity intact while creating a future-forward new look for our franchises.
I designed new logos for all of our sub-brands, including KAKE News, KAKE First Alert Weather, KAKE Sports, and more, plus a new style guide for internal and external use.
In addition to all of these deliverables, timing was also key here. The moment we unveiled our new set and on-air graphics, we needed to kill all previous logos from our website, social media, on-air promotions, and outside media, replacing them immediately with new materials. To ensure this process went smoothly, I created multiple elements of documentation and internal communications, and collaborated with key players on a strict timeline.
Finally, no change of this magnitude is complete without PR and earned media! I was in charge of writing and delivering carefully crafted press releases to media outlets across the country, and more importantly, throughout the community here in Wichita.
